Calcutta Business School is autonomous Institution offering an AICTE approved 2-year fully residential Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programme. The fully residential state-of-the-art infrastructure is located on a sprawling 15 acres eco-friendly ‘intelligent’ campus on the outskirts of Calcutta, the city that nurtured Swami Vivekananda, Kabiguru Rabindra Nath Tagore, Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sri Satyajit Roy and many other leaders and thinkers of our country. Most of our other Visiting Faculty are either former Professors of IIMs or leading professionals. In addition, Distinguished Professors, who are icons in their respective areas, will provide stimuli to students. The curriculum and pedagogy are innovative and unique in many respects. In the first year, while building the foundation for management education, there will be a balanced exposure between soft and hard skills, case studies, business modeling and major projects to develop a continuous learning motivation amongst the students for managing an organization as a whole with the right blend of skills and knowledge. Frequent power point presentations will hone their communication skills. Beyond the interactive class room sessions, the students will be required to spend long hours in self studies, project work, simulation games, library work, etc. to ensure preparedness in facing the highly complex and competitive local and global scenario. In the 2 nd year there are five clusters for specialization. Each cluster will cover some functional and application areas. Each student will opt for specialization in one of such clusters with a choice of eight courses and freedom to choose six more courses from the other clusters. In addition to functional areas of economics, finance, operations, marketing, MIS, HRM and strategy, the application areas covered are information technology, retailing, banking, financial markets, hospitality and tourism. Certain Centres headed by the Director, will cultivate specialization in areas like technology and manufacturing management, energy and environment management, agriculture and agri business management, infrastructure management, international management and innovation and entrepreneurship. The emphasis for developing academic excellence will be through interaction between teachers, students, corporate executives and CEOs, in a mixture of Post Graduate Programmes, Management Development Programmes, Case Development, Research and Consultancy. In this respect the school is lucky to have a Trustee Board and Board of Governors consisting of leading Industrialists and Professionals.
